The name Hautes-Cotes is given to those vines that grow slightly higher up the slopes than the main vineyards. This extra altitude with its slightly cooler climate gives lighter, less powerful wines that do not need to be kept for years. This is a light and fragrant example of a Burgundy that is ready to drink now. 12.8% alc

Volnay 1er Cru Les Caillerets  (2006) £31.50
Les Caillerets is one of the best sites in Volnay. This one has finesse, elegance and structure. While it will improve with age it is already enjoyable as Volnay is regarded as the softest, most "feminine" of the reds of the Cote de Beaune.

Auxey Duresses Vielles Vignes  (2007) £19.50
This vintage is very rounded and perfumed. While already very good, it is not yet at its best and really needs another few years. It will mature splendidly over a few years.

Meursault les Clous  (2007) £24.50
At present this wine is still quite minerally and youthful, which is very much my taste. It will continue to improve over the next few years, growing fuller and more rounded with age.
