Auxey Duresses is only a ten minute drive from Beaune and adjoins
Meursault,
Pommard and Volnay, with St Romain a short way off up the hill. La Cremaillere
is a family run restaurant, owned by Michel Prunier whose cave lies on the other
side of the road, immediately opposite. The restaurant is situated in the centre
of the village, within walking distance of some of the village's top vineyards,
which make an enchanting post-lunch walk through the narrow lanes.
Chef de Cuisine Jean-Michel Vernochet offers you three set menus ranging in price
from 22 euros up to 32 euros as well as his A La Carte menu. He is particularly
proud of his Boeuf Bourgignon and his fillet de
sandre, a local fish dish which
we have all enjoyed. The set menus are excellent value, while the wine list is
heavily influenced by Michel & Estelle Prunier's own wines. They have put some
of their more mature vintages on the wine list, which gives you a fascinating
opportunity to see first hand how a wine will develop with a few years of added
bottle age. An Auxey Duresses Vieilles Vignes with even five years maturity is
a very different kettle of fish, if I may mix my metaphors, to a bottle from the
2003 vintage. It is not just Bordeaux that improves with age.
The restaurant is easy to find, being on the main road and it has several private
parking spaces alongside.
Chef Jean-Louis occasionally puts on special menus, an example of which is the one
for this year's Fete St Vincent, where Michel and Estelle have invited a number of
guests to join them.
